RECIPE IF THE WEEK

Greek-style Pita Sandwiches
Makes 2 servings
PointsPlus™ value | 6 per serving
Ingredients
1 large whole wheat pita
2 Tbsp hummus, plain, lemon or red pepper flavor
2 Tbsp plain non-fat yogurt, Greek-style recommended
6 oz deli-sliced turkey
1/2 cup chopped cucumber
1/2 cup chopped tomato
1/4 cup reduced-fat crumbled feta cheese
Instructions
Cut pita in half. Spread 1 tablespoon each of hummus and yogurt inside each pita half. Fill each half with 3 ounces of turkey, 1/4 cup each of cucumber and tomato, and 2 tablespoons of feta. Yields 1/2 stuffed pita per serving.


ZUCCHINI OVEN CHIPS
Ingredients 4 servings
1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs
1/4 cup (1 ounce) grated fresh Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons fat-free milk
2 1/2 cups (1/4-inch-thick) slices zucchini (about 2 small)
Cooking spray
Preparation
Preheat oven to 425°.
Combine first 5 ingredients in a medium bowl, stirring with a whisk. Place milk in a shallow bowl. Dip zucchini slices in milk, and dredge in breadcrumb mixture. Place coated slices on an ovenproof wire rack coated with cooking spray; place rack on a baking sheet. Bake at 425° for 30 minutes or until browned and crisp. Serve immediately.

Natasha shared alot of good info with us...but there are a couple of things that really stuck out to me and for those of you that couldn't make it I thought I'd share them with you.

in a nut shell...
she started off running from telephone poll to telephone poll
She has now completed a marathon, a triathalon and several other races
She suggests finding motivation through inspirational music
She made health a priority in her life...which helped her lose weight...but she also lost other things...
-sometimes you lose friends who aren't supportive
-lose time to do other activites like crafting or scrapbooking
She found that people who love you don't always want you to change
She find joy and energy through eating the right foods
She has kept her weight off for about 3 years...and THIS IS TRULY AN ACCOMPLISHMENT

Everyone who knows them can say they are working their butts off and their dedication to becoming the healthiest they can be is an inspiration. For the month of June they both lost over 4% of their body weight. Keep it up girls! Keep it up!

To eat healthy....

What kind of sugar addict are you?


Beating those sugar cravings can help gain control of your weight. We (I see way because myself included) eat WAY WAY WAY to much sugar, in all its forms. Even fruit people!! Yes fruit is amazing, and yes you should eat it. That being said, it's summer and fresh fruit is all over and its very easy to go overboard on those natural sweet treats. Remember they still have calories and lots of...you guess it...SUGAR. My personal "rule" is 2 maybe 3 servings a day at the most.

So on top of all the natural sugars we are consuming than you have all the sugar that is added into everything. Be aware this week of how much sugar you are taking in. it may surprise you, start to cut it out...and come to lose it this week to discuss ways you can get over your sugar addiction.

The 4 Types of Sugar Addiction
It is critical to know what is driving your addiction, so the first step is figuring out which type(s) of sugar addict you are. There are 4 main types. These are:

TYPE 1: Exhausted and hooked on “loan shark” energy drinks (full of caffeine and sugar)
For day-to-day fatigue that causes sugar (and caffeine) cravings, sometimes all that is needed is to improve nutrition, sleep and exercise, so that your energy will improve and you won't need sugar and caffeine for an energy boost. In my upcoming blogs, I will teach you how to turbo charge your energy in an easy and healthy way.

TYPE 2: Feed me now or I’ll kill you ― when life’s stresses have exhausted your adrenal stress handler glands
For those of you who get irritable when hungry and crash with stress, it is important to treat your adrenal exhaustion. Otherwise, telling yourself to not eat sugar while your blood sugar is crashing is like telling someone who is suffocating not to breathe.

TYPE 3: The happy Twinkie hunter
For those of you with sugar cravings caused by yeast/Candida overgrowth ― often associated with nasal congestion, chronic sinusitis or spastic colon. If you have chronic nasal congestion, sinusitis, spastic colon or irritable bowel syndrome, treating yeast overgrowth is critical.

TYPE 4: Depressed and carb-craving around your period or around menopause/andropause

Avacado Mango Salsa

AVACADO MANGO SALSA

Prep Time:

Ready In:
20 Min

Original Recipe Yield 8 servings
Ingredients
1 avocado - peeled, pitted and diced
1 lime, juiced
1 mango - peeled, seeded and diced
1 small red onion, chopped
1 habanero pepper, seeded and chopped
(you can try a different type of pepper if you’d like, some have used red and green peppers, some jalepeno peppers…)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
salt to taste
Directions
Place the avocado in a serving bowl, and mix with the lime juice. Mix in the mango, onion, habanero pepper, cilantro and salt

Wheat Grass Miracle


If you missed class this week you missed out on tasting delicious fresh wheat grass juice. k, so some of you thought it wasn't totally yummy, but after we discussed the benefits I think we are all sold on how amazing this green little grass is.

Make it yourself...
Here's what you need.
atleast 2 regular sized cafeteria trays
wide mouth jar
about 3/4 cup hard red wheat
organic potting soil
AND SUNSHINE :)

put seed in jar and fill with water
Soak for 6 hours
Drain out all water and set at an angle to drain
let sprout for two days
once the wheat has sprouted a little tail its ready to plant
Spread soil over one tray about one inch thick
sprinkle seeds evenly over soil, try to avoid clumping, they can be slightly touching but not laying on top each other.
Water well and cover with other tray, set away from sunlight
After about 3 days your grass will grow and push the tray up a bit,
Take the top tray off...water your grass and place in the sunshine
Let grow till it gets about 4-8 inches
THAN JUICE!!
you have to have a juicer that is designed to juice wheatgrass
1-3 oz a day is plenty, start with one to see how your body responds.

WEIRD FACT
Did you know wheat grass juice closely resembles human BLOOD...KREEPY right? the only difference is hemoglobin contains Iron and chloryphyl has magnesium.

The cool thing about this is it doesn't take much to break it down to a form that is useable to your body. I feel energy flow through my blood when I drink wheat grass...that sounds so strange I know. But try it for yourself. :)

The Amazing Living Foods Lifestyle

This week we talked about sprouting and livings foods. I think it went very well, and everyone that attended seemed to really be fascinated, as I was when I first got into this. Here is some of the stuff we covered. If you have questions...PLEASE contact me, I'm here to help and learn along with you. Let's get healthy together!

What is a living food?
When a seed soaks up its fill of water it becomes ALIVE! It goes from a dormant seed to a living food (amazing) and that it the biggest nutritional jump in the entire sprouting process.

What are the benefits of sprouts? sprouts and other living foods are the most nutrtionally concentrated foods. They are HIGH in fiber, have plenty of enyzymes which makes them a high energy food, they contain loads of vitamins and even quite a bit of protein. Also one thing I have noticed in myself, is they work wonders for digestion. Those little sprouts are pre digested, which means it doesn't take much work for your body to process them, they pretty much digest themselves!
When you eat animal protein your body has to convert it to a simple amino acid, but whne you eat the yummy stuff from your sprouts and other living foods its already in the form of a simple protein

At class I went over a bunch of different seeds that you probably already have at home that you could sprout! Check out sproutpeople.org
They have detailed directions on how to sprout. I don't use a sprouter I just use wide mouth jars so if you have questions or want to learn about that then shoot me an email

The healthy benefits are amazing you guys! I'm not expecting any of you to immedietly consume only living foods. But I think this is a GREAT way to supplement what you are already doing. and I can say first hand that I feel better and have more energy when I eat these things. Try it for yourself
